Letter f
The letter f belongs to the group of letters that go below the line. It is easily confused with the long s but in most cases will be distinguishable by a horizontal stroke through the vertical one.

In the middle of a word, a double f is just that and should be transcribed as ff. However, at the beginning of a word a double f is indicative of a capital f and should be transcribed as F. Some surnames still maintain the double f at the beginning of the name.
