017.03 | "The South Port was erected about 1591. When taken down a few years ago, to render the entry to the town more Commodious, a Silver piece the Size of a Crown was discovered in the foundation." Nimmo's History of Stirlingshire. The Site of this port has been pointed out by Mr William Galbraith Town Clerk, it is Situated in Port Street immediately where the Dumbarton Road joins the former, it was taken down about the year 1790, there is no vestige of it on the ground at the present time. |
