017.03 | A neat and Substantial building four Storeys high with a large yard Sttached, Situated off St John Street. Was erected in 1846 at the expense of the County & Burgh of Stirling, and is Supported by an Annual Assessment levied on said County & Burgh. Contains the usual Males and Females Wards, Washhouse, Cookhouse etc the female Wards Situated on the 1st Storey and one half of the second, the remaining Storeys are occupied as Male Wards etc. There are Attached to this Prison, a Surgeon, Chaplain, Governor, Matron, and four Male Wardens and One female Warden. The Governor resides in St John Street, Adjoining to the entrance of the Prison. It is a Burgh & County Prison and is kept in first rate Order. |
