| QUERNS FOUND HERE [nr. Barry Hill] | Querns or Handmills found here | Mr. Lammond Bruceton | 053 | A Small hillock apparently artificial as the distinct traces of a ditch round it is still visible. Its surface is covered with R.P. [Rough Pasture] and whins. Mr. Fleming the tenant when digging for stones some few years ago found some hand mills or querns, Some of which are still in his possession. No other information can be gleaned concerning this knoll in the neighbourhood. |

I can obtain no information respecting
this object, but it is clearly artificial
and a work of defence. In trenching
up the small Fort below Barry Hill a
short distance to the westward, several querns
or hand mills were found, and as the
same utensils have been also found within
this enclosure it is probable that it was in
occupation by the same people. [signed] J.B. L.Col. [Lieutenant Colonel}

Ordnance Survey - Perth county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Perth, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
