024.11 ; 024.14 ; 024.15 ; 024.16 | A small but important river which is sometimes called Carron Water; It rises near the road side leading from Campsie to Fintry about Midway between these Villages. From its source to about 3 miles of Denny its banks are low, and its course sluggish, particularly that portion passing through Carron Bog, where in the winter season it frequently assumes the appearance of a large Loch. From this point to about ½ a mile South of Denny it is rapid its banks rugged, precipitous, and thickly wooded from this point to its confluence with the Firth of Forth it again assumes its sluggish course. Its tributaries are the Grange Burn, Bonny Water, and a number of small rivulets of lesser note. At Larbert nearly the whole of its waters are diverted through an Artificial Channel to a large Reservoir for the purpose of propelling the Vast Machinery of the Carron Iron Works, and about ½ below these works it again receives the water that was taken from it at Larbert, and from this to the Firth of Forth it is navigable.
