039 | Tradition Says that Wallace Concealed himself here for Some time after the "Barns of Ayr" in 1297. In the South Side of "Long Glen" Close by and having its entrance level with the bed of a Small Stream. Its Mouth is about 5 feet in height by about two wide the bottom level and about 12 feet in length the roof Sloping downwards to its inner extremity. It is apparently artificial from marks in the rock - white freestone - Supposed to have been left by the implements in the hollowing of it out. |
