[County] of Edinburgh and rises a distance of about 7 miles before entering Haddingtonshire, it then passes through Ormiston & Pencaitland & forms a confluence with a large stream called "Birns Water" about 1/2 mile east of East Pencaitland. The River or rather large stream from its source to the above Junction is called "Tyne Water" and from thence to the Sea at Tynninghame it is called "Tyne River" This part of the River passes through part of the Parish of Salton, Parish of Gladsmuir.
