014 | This is the remains of an ancient Gate having being one of the entrances to Herdmanston. There is nothing of it remaining but the arch (the gate having been long since removed) which is in a good state of preservation and is covered with ivy. Its dimensions are nearly as follows. 24 feet long, 8 feet thicK & about 20 feet high. Herdmanston was formerly surrounded by a wall or thicket, the East & West Gates forming the entrance. |

014 | The remains of this ancient Gate is situated, about 4 Chains northwest of Herdmanston 7 adjoining ancient chapel and is of the same huge dimen ions as the Gate or Arch described above. It was the west entrance to Herdmanston It is also in a good state of preservation The hooks on which the Gate hung are still to be seen in the archway. |
