Parish of Mouswald -- Plan 56/6 Trace 3
*Tower would be improperly applied to this antiquity, as the remains thereof show the Structure to have been a "Place" (Castle) of Considerable strength and dimensions compared to all others for miles around. Its original proprietor Sir Simon Carruthers seems from ancient records and also Monuments yet extant in the vicinity to have been a person of great Note,-besides being claimed by Queensberry family as a progenitor. The modern house cannot, along, with lands, aspire even to the more modern acceptation in nomenclature of the word "Place", for altogether as a property it is trifling and more akin to a "Mains" (Farm).
