054 | The ruins of a chapel in a small graveyard, situated at the junction of the Burn of Polinar with the river Don. Little information is on record respecting this chapel. It is thus mentioned in the new Statistical Account of Aberdeenshire, "page 677- "On the lands of Manar, the now ruinous chapel of St. [Saint] Apolonaris, and the patron saint of the parish, stood." "Inverury was dedicated to Saint Appolinaris, disciple of Saint Peter and first Bishop of Ravenna; who died in A.D. 81, on 23d July: his chapel stood on Don where is now a farm called Polinar Chapel" [Extract from Statistical Collections 1843, page 582.] |
