054 | The date of erection of this place is not Known, but that it existed previous to 1629 is proved by a stone bearing that date in Inverury graveyard, which marks the graves of a husband and wife, two of its occupiers. On this gravestone the word is spelt "Artones". There is a spring close to this place which is now brought to the surface by an iron pipe. When Mr. Bisset of Ardtannes was sinking this pipe , he struck upon a platform of black oak logs underneath which, was a species of draw-well from which it is conjectured the people of Old Hall of Ardtannes drew their water. A darker shade on the grass is all which marks the site of this place now. |

054 | Close to the spring at Old Hall of Ardtannes stood a small Knoll in which, when cultivated, a large quantity of arrowheads was found. It may have been a place where these were made as it was composed of black earth mixed up with charred wood, portions of which may still be seen about the spot, and portions of stones lying near have evidently been subjected to the action of fire. |
