Colonel Sir Henry James........
Ordnance Survey Office
Southampton

Capt [Captain] Parsons

BURGH OF INVERURIE
THE TOWN COUNCIL, considering that the
name of this Burgh has for many years back been spelt
"Inverury", and that, owing to the similarity of this name to
that of Inverary, in Argyllshire, many Letters addressed to the
former place are mis-sent to the latter, thereby causing great
delays and much inconvenience to the Merchants, Traders and
Inhabitants generally, have, in order to avoid these as far as
possible, resolved to return to the ancient spelling of the name
of this Burgh as "INVERURIE", and have enacted and
ordained that the said spelling of Inverurie be adopted and
used in all Papers and Documents connected with the Burgh's
affairs; and the Postmaster-General having at their request
inserted in the Post Office Lists as a Post Town the name of
"Inverurie", as synonymous with the present Postal name of
"Keith-hall", the Council beg to recommend to the Public the
adoption of that spelling.
Of all which Publication is hereby made by direction of the
Town Council.
C.B. DAVIDSON, Town Clerk
Inverurie, 20th April, 1866.

Ordnance Survey - Aberdeen county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Aberdeen, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
