• What can I do for free?

  On ScotlandsPeople you can search our indexes without charge and you only pay to view and save images of records and to order certificates.

  It is free to view the 1881 (LDS) census records, which are copies of the transcriptions of the enumeration pages of the 1881 census, produced by the Latter Day Saints (LDS), and the Highlands and Islands Emigration records (within the 'Poor relief and migration records' category).

  It is also free to view images of maps and plans and jpeg images in our Image Library and the records made available through the Virtual Volumes system. Please note that you have to pay to save images from the Image Library and from Virtual Volumes.
