139.12 ; 140.09 ; 140.13 | A river of considerable importance which takes its rise near the east base of Ben Lomond, and after a very tortuous course of 60 or 80 miles becomes the Frith of Forth, the scenery along its banks is varied, but for fully half its course it glides silently on through a very fertile plain dividing the county of Stirling from those of Perth and Clackmannan, it is navigable as far as the town of Stirling, up to which point Steamers, and vessels of small tonnange proceed, its principal tributaries are the Teith, Allan, Bannock and Devon, together with a host of other rivulets of less importance. A very small portion of this river occurs in the parish of Clackmannan. From the boundary of Clackmannan and Tulliallan Parishes it is considered, on the Ordnance Plan, as the Firth of Forth |
