022.01 | This was a large "Thorn tree" which Stood on "Polwarth Green", around which the youngsters of the Village used to hold their merry makings, And where all the marriages of Any note which took place in the parish were afterwards celebrated, but this practice has been discontinued, as nothing of this Kind has taken place here Since 1823. The original "Thorn" has gone to decay, but there are two which are Said to be Shoots from it, which are preserved with great Care, being Surrounded with a parapet wall Surmounted by an iron Railing. |
