084 | This name applies to a loch about Eighteen miles in length and extending from the village of Lairg on the South to within a short distance of Loch Griam on the north. Its mean breadth is about one mile. There are four Islands in this Loch, there are also four rivers in the Parish of Lairg which empty their waters into Loch Shin. The loch is well stocked with Salmon and trout and affords excellent sport to anglers. There is a small steamer placed on this loch by his Grace the Duke of Sutherland which is chiefly employed conveying Limestone from the Shiness Quarry to the Lime works at Lairg.
