006; 015; 017; 023; 024 | This name applies to a Salt water Loch situated in the North East of the Parish of Durness, Sutherland, and about nine miles South-east of Cape Wrath. It is about ten miles in length and varies from one to four and one half in bredth. This Loch is very much resorted to for Shelter in rough weather by vessels Sailing round Cape Wrath or having to pass through the Pentland Firth. it affords Safe anchorage for Ships of all Sizes both at Rispond and Camas an Dùin Bays. There are two Ferries on this loch viz Heilem and Eireboll; the Charge on the former being 1/- [one shilling] and on the latter 1/6 [one shilling and sixpence] a Sailing boat plys to & fro on both. There are Several Islands in this loch the principal of which are An Corr-Eilein, Eilean Cluimhrig, Segeir a' Bhuic and Eilean Hoan Situated near the entrance all of which are described under their respective heads. |
