Continued entries/extra info

West Kilbride
April 1855

Sir
The name Poteath
is given by several parties
to the Cottage occupied by
George Rae the Earl of Eglinton's
Baron Officer and of late years
to the farmhouse & yard occupied
by Hugh Hunter, there is little
doubt that the house occupied
by the Baron Officer is the original
Porteath, whereas that occupied by
Hugh Hunter was formerly called
Porteath Miln & Harthcraig Mill both of which are now disused.
The latter named person
is an extensive farmer in the
occupation of the greater part of
Capt. Bayly
R.E.

Ordnance Survey - Ayr county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Ayr, which is in the south west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
