065 | A prominent wooded hill situated about a mile and a half from the Cromarty Firth and between the villages of Alness and Evanton. "One of them (the hills in the parish) having an elevation of 1000 feet above the level of the sea, may be conjectured both from its name Fyrish ("Faire" is the gaelic word for beacon or wath [watch]), and from its proximity to the shores of the firth, to have been employed at some remote period as a station for beacon lights."
