012.13 | A Substantial and Commodious building One Storey high, Slated and in excellent repair, Situated in Oakshaw Street, Was erected in 1821 at a Cost of £457 Out of a legacy of £1500 left by Mrs Margaret Hutcheson of Paisley, And it was Additionally endowed Subsequently by a donation of £500 from the late Walter Carswell Esq. for the Purpose of building and Endowing a School, with the view of educating, gratis, Orphans, and the Children of Poor Parents who are unable to Pay for their education, the School is under the management of twelve directors, and as the name indicates it is wholly free, the teachers Salary is Paid by the directors Out of the interest Arising from the Endowment. Affords tuition in the elementary branches of an English education. Average Attendance 150 |
