012.02 | The Supposed Site of a Roman Camp Situated at the West end and Adjoining the Cemetery; the Site would appear to have been well Chosen, as it is on elevated ground and commands as extensive prospect of the Surrounding Country for Several miles. There is no vestige of it on the ground at the present time, nor has there been any, it is Said, from time immemorial; the discovery of Some Small earthen drinking Cups in the immediate neighbourhood, by Mr Barr of Ferguslie Place, Several years Ago, when making improvements in his Property, has Some Value as a Piece of inferential evidence With an Association of this Antiquity with the Romans, the Cups referred to have been Seen by an Antiquary of Paisley, who has pronounced them to be Romans; they are three in number, and of Course very rude in Construction & Appearance, And Are now in the Possession of Mrs Barr, Ferguslie Place; the exact Spot where they were found cannot now be identified,_ The Site of this Camp is Shown on a Map of Paisley, professed to have been made from an Actual Survey in 1822, as "the remains of a Roman fortification, Said to have been here, but not now distinguishable."
