073 | [Situation] In Auchtergaven Ph. [Parish] No information can be gathered with regard to these remains of a fort on the summit of Craig Obney - but there can be no doubt that it was built at a very remote period as there is nothing remaining now but a few stones laying in a somewhat circular form. "On Craigobany, one of the summits of Birnam, there was recently discovered a vitrified fort." Fullarton's Gazetteer "The Antiquarian will find, on one of the southern points of Birnam, called Craig Obeny, the remains of a Circular Fort, partially vetrified. The approach to this fort from the south is still traceable; and from its commanding position must have been a place of great strength in the days when gunpowder was unknown." Ordnance Survey - Perth county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Perth, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
