[Situation] Running through the Central and eastern portion of Peethshire This river takes its rise in, and runs from the eastern extremity of Loch Tay in Perth-Shire, which after flowing a circuitous course through the valley of Strathtay, part of Strathmore, and passing by the City of Perth, thence through the Carse of Gowrie, where it assumes the Character of a Firth or an arm of the Sea atlength discharges itself into the German Ocean Some miles beyond Dundee. The place where it naturally begins the character of a Firth is generally considered to be where the river Earn joins it, or about the western extremity of Mugdrum Island. A line drawn from the extremity of the County boundary between the County of Perth and that of Fife, to the extremity of the boundary between the parishes of St Madoes and Errol will approximately show this limit. |
