Shearer's Antiquities of Strathearn Mr. Robert Jack Mr. William Stewart |
107 ; 117 | The site of a Roman Road extending from the Camps of Ardoch to Perth. Nearly all the road in Muthill parish has been defaced, but it can be traced in most places with tolerable accuracy, the debris not having yet thoroughly incorporated itself with the soil. The portion through Pirnhill Plantation is nearly entire unless where a few of the stones were removed when the plan was planted. "The Roman Road from Ardoch crosses the Earn at a short distance above the station (Strageath), and a branch leads into it." Shearer's Antiquities of Strathearn The Roman Road on the north and west of the camp at Strageath differs materially from the survey given by General Roy, the tenant of the farm on which this portion of the road occurs has pointed out its site, states that he is positive of it, and further, that it was under his tenancy that the road was destroyed, and the stones removed to drain the fields through which it passed. As no other authentic information can be obtained, this portion of the Roman Road has been inserted on the tracings on this man's authority. |

Ordnance Survey - Perth county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Perth, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
