| CHAPEL (In Ruins) [Strageath Mill] | Chapel Chapel Chapel Chapel |
Mr Peter Ferguson Ph Sl [Parish School] Master Mr Peter Edington Land Steward Estate Map of 1772 Estate Map of 1810 |
107 | The ruins of an old chapel situated at the Strageath Mill, the east gable and part of the sides are still standing the graveyard in which it stands is occasionally used for the internment of a few old families. The date of the erection of this Chapel is unknown, but it is said that Strageath was once a parish, and that at that time it was then the Parish Church, this statement, however is merely tradition as there are no documents to support this statement. A gravestone within the walls of the Chapel bears the date 1692, there are much older looking ones in the graveyard but the dates on them are illegible. |
