095 | The Parish Church of Crieff was built in 1787, it is of Gothic structure, has a massive square tower rising from its south centre. It is seated to accommodate 1100 persons, and stands on the site of the Old Church. "At the demolition of the old parish church (which was an antique Gothic structure, 95 feet long, 18 feet wide and 14 feet in the quire) in the year 1787, about forty gold coins of Robert 1. of Scotland were found deposited in a niche of the wall, about six inches from the floor. Each piece, which was equal in breadth to a modern guinea, and precisely one-fourth of its weight, had the head of this monarch, with the words, "Robertus Rex Scotorum," upon the one side, and St. Andrew with his cross upon the other.
