108 | The ruins of this ancient though elegant structure, still exist in the neighbourhood of the massive and venerable pile which Norwegian devotion dedicated to Saint Magnus. Mr Peace in his "Hand Book to the Orkney Isles" says, "In the immediate neighbourhood of of the Cathedral are the remains of the Bishop's Palace. It is a very old building and the time of its erection has not been ascertained. It was in this place in 1263, after the Battle of Largs, that Haco, King of Denmark took up his residence, and shortly afterwards died and in one of its upper chambers lay in state.
