An open space in the central part of the town, having five streets running into it. There are three fairs held here during the year and customs are sometimes changed by the town for using the Cross as a market place. There are no proper limits to the cross except on the side (the n.west) formed by the Edinburgh and Ayr T. P. Road. The name "The Cross" is not yet comen ticketed, but is about to be done.
