024.05 | This is a toll gate on the Ayr and Edinburgh T.P.Road, at the west end of Stonehouse. It is well known as the "West Bar"and it would be improper to dispense with the "Bar" in the name, as although it is known to be the turnpike gate in the west of the town. The word "bar" has become a name of as much importance as any in or about the village. There is an "East Bar" or gate in the east of Stonehouse. |

This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Lanark, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
