024.05 | This tomb stone, or rather the tomb stones (one of them was renewed, or erected, in 1832, as the old head stone was becoming indistinct) stand near the old church in the grave yard of, or belonging to the parish church. The old stone is standing upright in the ground at the head of the large, flat tomb erected in 1832. The inscription on both stones is alike with the exception of the first few words. "Here lies, or near this", the new stone gives these words. "Here lies James Thomson, who was shot in a recounter at Drumclog 1st June 1679, by bloody Grahame of Cluverhouse, for his adherence to the word of god, and Scotland's Covenanted work of Reformation", Resclatines 11th and 12th. The tomb was renewed "in 1832 by the decendants of the Thomsons, late in Tanhill, Lesmahagow". |
