018.10 | This name applies to houses on the South side of the Carlisle T.P. [Turn Pike] Road, as also to a couple of rows near the wall of the High Parks of Hamilton. The row on the road side is feued from the Duke of Hamilton. The others are occupied by the Duke's Tenants. The name is taken from Fern. There is no authority for the corruption, of any value, except those given. On the adjoining Trace - 4, there is a Coal Depot for sale of coals brought from Larkhall, by the Lesmahagow Ry. [Railway]? There is also a coal Pit. The latter is property of Mr. J. Nesbit - feuar of the Ferniegair Cottage. |
