Tumulus (continued) - broken into, several urns were found, containing the ashes of human bones." New Statl. [Statistical] Account.
As given by the Proprietor, "Roman Mount", is the name by which the "Tumulus" is known in the immediate neighborhood. It is considered by the Proprietor to be the name of the object without reference to the nature of it. There is a graveyard beside the Tumulus which belongs to the Estate of "Meikle Earnock", the feuars of which have the right of burying in it. It is a private Graveyard.

Also, written across columns 2-4: "Near the middle of the parish is a Roman Tumulus, which has been of considerable extent. About 20 years ago (1780) one side of it was broken into, and a good many urns found, containing the ashes of human bones". Old Stat. [Statistical] Acct. [Account]
