The mode of spelling 'Nether Whitecleuch' has the authority of G Irving while ' Nether Whitecleugh' has the authority of the others.
The mode of spelling ' Martincleuch Hill' has the authority of G Irving while 'Martincleugh Hill' has the authority of the others.
For Nether Whitecleuch Burn, the original other mode of spelling was 'Martincleuch Burn' and 'Martincleugh Burn' but this has been crossed out and replaced with 'Nether Whitecleuch Burn' and 'Nether Whitecleugh Burn' and a note 'this was a mistake of the examiner' inserted
