053 | A large Cairn situated on the north bank of Killundine River and about a quarter of a mile east of the public road. It is about fifty by thirty yards broad at the base and must originally have been of very considerable height. From the highest ground surrounding it, it is still ten or twelve feet high situated on a slope its south face is much higher. "An old tumulus of very great size exists called Cairn na Caillich or Old Wife's Cairn" "Cairn na Caillich, the huge tumulus already referred to, still remains entire". Extracts from New Statistical Account - It is situated on the property of Miss Beattie of Glen Morven. English meaning, Cairn of the Old Woman. |
