053 | This ruin stands on slightly rising ground, within half a mile of the West coast of the island, and about seven and a half miles North of Loch Boisdale. It was built in the 17th Century by a branch of the McDonald family, and accidently burnt in 1815, since which time it has remained roofless, the walls remain entire, and are about 40 feet high in some parts. There is a small modern farm house now adjoining having offices attached. The whole is now the property of J. Gordon Esqr. Cluny Castle Aberdeenshire. |

"written as above so as to have uniformity in the spelling of the very common termination - clett. The great number of modes used shows that it is not material which mode is adopted so long as the soundis retained."
