114 | A very large prominent Creag, rising on the south side of the Spey directly opposite creag Mhor; on the south side of which is a deep precipitous defile running to the distance of about half a mile from West to east, through which a small stream flows. On the north side of this stream and about half way down the declivity is a small cave formed by three large rocks, two upright and one forming the roof, the entrance to the cave is very narrow and well adapted for concealment. A tradition is told by the natives of this district of a certain irish gentleman name Cathelus who eloped with a daughter of Cluny McPherson's and hid in this cave. He was discovered, fled, captured, and was murdered about a mile from the creag on the north side of the Spey. There is a Standing-Stone over his grave. This occurred about 200 years ago. - Hence the name. |

Ordnance Survey - Inverness county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Inverness, which is in the north of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
