| STONE CROSS [Ormiston] | Ormiston Cross Ormiston Cross |
Hugh Brown John Barin |
014 | [Situation] Near the centre of the Village of Ormiston An ancient cross in the village of Ormiston. Its height from the ground is about 15 feet. "There is an old cross in the centre of the village. It seems to have been connected with a Roman Catholic chapel, which about the beginning of the last century, stood where the cross now is, extending across the street from N. W. [North West] to S.E. [South East] That chapel was then used as a school house and one of the oldest inhabitants, now dead told me he was educated there." See Stat Acct [Statistical Account] 1841. |

Stone Cross [Ormiston] [note] "It is said that a religious house stood at some remote period
immediately on the north side of the place where a stone cross at present
stands, near the centre of the village, but whether it was a chapel, a nunnery
or a convent, could not be ascertained nor could any one be met with
ho could give any information concerning this regions house."

Ordnance Survey - East Lothian county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of East Lothian, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
