014 | [Situation] About 1 1/4 mile S.E. by E. [South East by East] from Ormiston The ruins of an old Castle which is said to have been built by one of the family of Cockburns formerly proprietors of Ormiston. The remains at present existing consist of a square tower two storeys high. The ground storey is separated from the upper or second by an arched stone roof. It was apparently a place of defence & very strong. The large vault or Dungeon in the lower storey is the only part now remaining entire. |
