In the garden belonging to the mansion house
of Ormiston Hall flourished a remarkable
yew-tree, under which George Wishart the reformer
& martyr, is said to have occasionally preached.
The tree is probably upward of 3 1/2 centuries in
growth, having been considered old in 1561. It
measured 18 feet in girth, 38 feet in height, and
18 feet in circumference of its branches, or
the area which they overlie." Fullerton's Gazetteer, Vol [Volume] 2, page 473.
