[situation] In the middle of High Street, opposite South end of cross Lane The site of this ancient market Cross is also preserved by a circle in the pavement it was standing in the memory of the authorities quoted & consisted of a number of circular steps in which was fixed an upright pillar surmounted by a unicorn chained - it was here the butter & egg market was held - it fell and was totally removed about 35 or 40 years ago |
