O.S.O. [Ordnance Survey Office] Perth
6th. Augt. [August] 1859

The Index Book for the parish of St.
Vigeans has not been made out owing to a
large proportion of the parish, and con-
sequently, of the object names, coming within
the range of the 10 feet scale. Town
of Arbroath, and as the latter plans are
not yet written nor the name Books, quite
complete, the Index Book could not at
present, be conveniently made out, that is
if it be necessary to include all the names
in the parish in said book, And as such
could be much more easily done when
the 25 Inch plan of the parish be completed
by the reduction of the 10 ft. [feet] scale, it is pre-
sumed that such is the system, practised
in similar cases at the office Southampton,
but if it be otherwise, by transmitting in-
structions to this office whatever it may be
shall be strictly followed.

Ordnance Survey - Angus county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
