046 | [Situation] On the western side of Whiting Ness. This is pointed out as the Site of the Old Chapel which was dedicated to St. Ninian; It stood on the rising ground at the Commencement of the Cliffs and East from the Town of Arbroath on what is now Called the Farm of West Seaton. Mr. Miller states that "The Chapel of St. Ninian was dependent on the Abbey. The Abbot regularly granted presentations to the Chaplainry. The Chapel and Altar were Consacrated on the 24th. of August 1485, but Seem to have existed long previously. Religious Services were performed in the Chapel till near the Reformation. The Surrounding field Known as St. Ninian's Croft formed part of its endowments; it must, however, have possessed other rents or Tithes besides this Croft" See extract in next page |
