| Baikie Castle Continued | [continued from page 38] "The castle of Balrie, another ruin, situated in Strathmore, has been built upon a rising ground towards the west end of the present moss (formerly a large loch) containing about 120 acres, to the eastward of the Castle & 6 to 8 to the westward. The present proprietor about 10 years ago dug up a part of the causeway which led into the drawbridge so that there is little doubt of this place having been once very strong, and almost impregnable. The walls in general are about 8 feet thick: but the house has been small & rather intended for a place of refuge in times of danger, than the constant residence of a family" Old Stat [Statistical] Account |

Ordnance Survey - Angus county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
