In the Descriptive Remarks
of the object noticed on
trace, & written, "Human bones
found here" it is stated that
"about 2 years ago Mr. Airth
farmer when clearing away a
small mound", &c, "discovered
a great many human bones" &c. &c.
Now it appears evident
from the fact of a mound
being here cleared away
that the object was a
"tumulus" and therefore
"Site of Tumulus" ought
to have been written on
trace and entered in
Name Sheets instead of
the phraseology "Human
bones found here" as the
designation tumulus would
imply the purpose it was
used for -
Was the mound large
which had been removed?
Was it artificial, or trowelled
earth?
Perhaps it was only a
natural hillock, as ancient
stone Coffins are sometimes
found in Knolls or hillocks?

"Site of Tumulus" now
written on trace - authorities
the same. Perhaps the N [Name] Sheet
in office written for this object will
still be useful, if the further
information given below be added
to what I have written -

About 40 ft. [feet] long. 7 ft. [feet] high in some parts and
about 10 ft. [feet] wide at the base -
was artificial. Mr. Proctor
considers it to have been a
mound thrown up at the time
the bodies were buried.
