A plain substantial edifice erected 1849 partly by a grant from Governt [Government] & partly by subscription of the inhabitants of Pathhead and Sinclairtown. The ground on which it stands is fued from J T Oswald Esq of Dunnikier. The average number of scholars is 170 who are taught a general English education. Latin. French & Drawing are also taught. The masters income is derived from the scholars fees & an allowance from Governt. [Government] of £5 per annum each for the instruction of 4 Pupil Teachers by whom he is assisted. The Pupil Teachers receive an allowance from Government of £10 each for 1st year £12.10 Second £15 Third £17.10 Fourth & £20 for the Fifth. The school is under the management of a Committee of 10 person of which James Bogie Esq. is Chairman. |
