[situation] On the Sea Coast S. [South] of Nether Street. "Below the town on a precipice almost surrounded by the sea stands the old Castle of Ravenscraig once the seat of the ancient family of St. Clair but now in ruins" Gazetteer p 490 "About half a mile to the westward of Dysart is the Castle of Ravenscraig. It stands on a steep craig fronting the sea. It with the adjoining lands was given by James 3rd to William Sinclair, Earl of Orkney, when he resigned the title of Orkney. [Quotation] "The Castle of Ravenscraig is situated on a rock, projecting into the sea, at the east end of Pathhead. It was given by James III [Third] to William St. Clair Earl of Orkney. It has been ever since possessed by the family of St. Clair. It was inhabited in Oliver Cromwell's time, and was fired upon by a party of his troops.
