005.15; 005.16 | These hills extend along the shore of the Moray Firth from the mouth of Findhorn Bay to old Bar, they are relieved on the south and east by a stripe of Rough Pasture, Broom, and a few isolated trees, but all along the coast to the breadth of from two to three fourths of a mile, they are nothing but one mass of shifting sand, shifting from West to East owning to the prevalence of Westerly Winds. Culbin Sandhills (Shifting Eastwardly)
The Site of those Sand hills are said to have been at one time a valuable Estate named Culbin, with a village Situated on it near to the present farm of Binsness, until the Sand commenced to drift over it when the village was deserted and the Estate and house through course of time became completely buried in this Sand so that there is no trace of them left.
