PENTLAND HILLS | Pentland Hills | Rev. [Reverend] A. Torrance Glencross Manse Rev. [Reverend] S. Moncrieff, PenicuiK Manse Co. [County] Map. |
012 | A range of high hills, or mountains running from the locality where the 3 Counties of Lanark, Peebles and Edinburgh approximate and stretching away in a north easterly direction terminates in the parish of Lasswade. Their elevation averages 16 or 1700 feet above the level of the sea and their appearance is at once lofty and picturesque. The River North Esk and Water of Leith have their sources amongst them together with many rivulets of less note. "Carnathy" is the loftiest hill of the range and is connected, as is the entire chain, with Scottish literature, both historical and romantic. - |

Ordnance Survey - Midlothian county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Midlothian, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
