[Situation] In the Royal Infirmary This religious house stood on the ground which is now occupied by the NE [North East] part of the buildings of the Royal Infirmary particularly that building which was formerly the High School. The gentlemen quoted as authority for the name have been unanimous in pointing the above site as the place where this institution stood. This they have learned from tradition, from old maps, & from historical records This monastery appears to be of considerable [note] note as appears from the histories of Edinburgh & other records. As usual with such institutions there was a large church & a Grave yard attached. There were human bones dug up a few years ago & from time to time in the adjacent grounds particularly in the street called High School Yards |

Ordnance Survey - Midlothian county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Midlothian, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
