Parish of the City of Edinburgh

"The Hart"
"This little square contains the buildings used as the Scottish Mint before the Union of the Kingdom in 1707. The houses have since been occupied as private dwellings and workshops. The date of the principal building over a doorway at the bottom of Todricks Wynd is 1574 previous to which period it appears from the confessions of Darnley's murderers already quoted that the Cunyie house was near the Palace. Edinburgh was a place of Mintage from the time of Robert Bruce."
